Howard University Students

On March 9, 2026 students from Howard University teamed up with Friends of Urban Nature (FUN) group to volunteer cleanup of the historic cemetery.

On Mar 8, 2025, local cleanup group led a volunteer cleanup initiative for cleaning up the historic cemetery. The LMCC Board recognized them with award of appreciation on Apr 10, 2025. Additionally on Mar 9, 2026 they teamed up with students from Howard University to cleanup the cemetery.

New Hampstead High School Air Force Jr. ROTC Students

On Apr 13, 2016 ROTC students volunteered cleanup of the historic cemetery. The LMCC Board recognized them with award of appreciation plaque on Oct 22, 2016.

David Blount

Pine Gardens resident that volunteered tremendous hours of community service cleaning up the cemetery with backhoe equipment from the company he worked for who allowed him to use on the weekends. The LMCC Board recognized him with award of appreciation plaque on Sept 22, 2007. Also, he helped Ellis Cook with cookouts for fundraising.

Patricia Jenkins

Devoted activist who spent her time proving the existence of the LePageville Cemetery and protecting it so that is not forgotten about. The LMCC Board recognized her with "Historian" award plaque on Oct 22, 2016 and then with appreciation award plaque on Apr 10, 2025.

Ellis Cook

Former City of Savannah Alderman Ellis Cook spearheaded cemetery cleanup and fundraising efforts. Additionally, he served as the Treasure (till 2011) to the LMCC Board. The LMCC Board recognized him with award of appreciation plaque on Oct 22, 2016.

EMC Engineering Services, Inc.

CEO Larry Stuber volunteered their Landscape Architect person, Daniel Fischer to help the LMCC in 2005. Surveyed property in 2015. The LMCC Board recognized them with award of appreciation plaque on Oct 22, 2016. Additionally, sponsored a gift-in-kind "Master Plan" in 2017.

Savannah State University (SSU)

SSU sponsored a grant towards restoring the memorial archway and installing a interpretative sign inside the cemetery. The unveiling was on Oct 17, 2014.

Chatham County Commission

Sponsored a gift-in-kind fencing at the cemetery. The unveiling was on Sep 22, 2007. The LMCC Board recognized them with award of appreciation plaque on Oct 22, 2016.

Parker’s

Parker's CEO Greg Parker gave permission to re-name its service street to LePageville Drive thus marking the spot in remembrance of one of Savannah's 19th century neighborhoods dating back to 1885 which housed African-American railroad employees. The LMCC Board recognized him with award of appreciation plaque on Oct 22, 2016.

Elaine Jolly

Wrote two college papers and transcribed an newspaper story about LePageville. The LMCC Board recognized her with award of appreciation on Apr 10, 2025.
