Building Memorial Archway

By LMCC Staff

Enough money was raised in 2007 to build a memorial arch over the entrance of the cemetery designating as LePageville Memorial Cemetery on the north side of President Street near Wahlstrom Road. It was unveiled on Sep 22, 2007.

Although none of the original burial markers remain, we wanted to honor the cemetery as a historical landmark and pay tribute to those buried here by maintaining the site as a beautiful, restful, and green environment for all to enjoy.

Special thanks to:

  • Stephen Warner for designing the arch.

  • Malcolm and Margie Wigley for donating the bell.

  • Buddy Myers

  • J. Willie Jones Masonry for their work on building the brick structure to hold the arch.

  • Jimmy Jenkins Jr. Roofing, Inc. for hoisting the archway up on to the two columns with their company's boom truck.

  • Savannah Fab for wielding the arch to the support structure

  • Chatham County Commission for arch entrance fence and perimiter fence along Wahlstrom Rd

The LePageville Memorial Cemetery arch dedication and ribbon cutting ceremony was held on September 22, 2007. This event was attended by many prominent city officials and many volunteers who contributed their time and resources to make this event possible. Considerable funds were raised to erect a grand archway at the cemetery entrance.
